i'm gonna be straight with you, mama red wings jason warned me not to and i trust that dude with my life that said i dont mind pinch hitting cant join a unit in any real capacity and im only answering to jay or loki but if your guys hit something big and need an extra hand, let me know
Warned you off which part of it? Jason isn't much of a team player.
To be frank, the major threat on the horizon is going to come when we step out of the shadows officially. I don't know what will be coming our way when we reveal ourselves officially to the world. And I suspect we have good reason to believe that anything that comes will be more small, at least at first. Digging up details, ways to attack us, the works. I promised people we'd have a way to protect ourselves from those attacks, so if you have an alternate proposal? I'm all ears.
yeaaah ive known jaybird since he needed an adult to buy his cigarettes been on a couple solid teams with him too he's real picky about who he trusts lose that trust once and its gone forever
less 'which part' more like 'don't do anything for her' jay was pretty harsh the exact words were "control freak" and "she'll turn on you the moment it benefits her" apparently he took something between you guys real personal the first part doesn't bug me, its the second im worried about
that said, i'm not letting any of our people take the hit in security for that so let's figure something out mutually assured destruction? checks and balances? how do we set this up so its not just our good word we're trusting from each other i dont wanna go knee deep in illegal encryptions and ID scramblers if im not certain i wont be scapegoat when the heat turns up
He took me bringing to light a situation where someone turned against him as a way of turning against a friend, but that friend had been someone I barely knew at that point and he was showing his true colors. I don't take kindly to exiling people. I've made the mistake before and I won't do it again. I'll own up the control freak part, but Jason's beef is barely founded and you have to know that sometimes that's how it is.
I won't turn you into a scapegoat, though.
Not unless you do something to deserve it. I assume that that's not something you're planning on anytime soon? Because then you wouldn't be a scapegoat. You'd be responsible.
Helping us out if the world turns against us shouldn't earn that. This is something I'd want in place in case I disappear or Stephen and I both disappear and the line of defense we've created is brittle and falls apart.
yeah see its the 'deserve it' part thats a tad bit worrisome thats a subject to interpretation thing but thats difficult to make rules around until it comes up so lets just say: if you think im doing something sketchy, ask me about it, and ill do that same cool?
i can appreciate that you said you wanted to form a unit - who else are you thinking of putting on this team?
Connor. I don't believe he'll take kindly to my interpretation of that story because I brought it to light during an argument with his brother. But I was trying to make a point about how trying to enforce certain restrictions and guidelines would end up leading to us ousting those among us who simply leap to harsher choices, even if they don't go through with them. [And because she was certain Connor would want Wanheda out of the Displaced's business once he learned.]
Deserving for me is hurting my people. Isn't that how it goes? We'll always put the people we care about most first, even here. I have no reason to believe that you'd do that right now. And when I say hurt, I don't mean minor slights or petty arguments. I mean hurting them. [It could be alarming to say that, but she's not going to lie. Clarke is almost too earnest in how she delivers things. It could make her look worse, but hey.
The one insincere part is where she firmly believes that Jason is the type of person to take a minor slight or pretty argument personally on behalf of his loved ones. But she's not going to say where she's coming from there.]
As for the unit—so far it's you, and I intend to ask all of the bouncers at Red Wings. They took up security because it's the closest to their previous lifestyles. I'd like to give them a job that's closer to what they're trained for. Most of the staff can handle themselves, so they can direct their energies toward a common community goal.
connor have a last name? and which brother? ah hell, you didn't try taking on damian and jay at the same time, did you? you know most masochists come up with some kinda safe word before asking for that much punishment
fair enough just promise me you'll ask my side before we go to war over something i try not to hurt people unless theyre putting some unfair hurt on others, and ill have proof before i do it
so we're lookin aaaat ephermera, wilson, washington, winchester (sidebar: ephermera is now wephermera) i only know the last guy, hes an A+ weapons tester, i can work with that muscle's great an all but in this shiny new age of digital everything, we could use a few more code pushers anyone you know come to mind?
Damian and I used to argue a lot in very public ways about how to handle the Displaced while coming from different but similar situations. We learned different lessons out of them. Which I realize sounds like some nonsense PR line, but we managed to come to an understanding after almost a year. I think the two of us went home.
Connor's last name was Resnik, I think. But he was an android, so I think any name he had was chosen to go by here. Damian might've referred to him by his last name from time to time.
For whatever it's worth, I always ask someone's side. I've been holding back on being harsh about your friend and his brother, but you know they aren't the most forthcoming people, right? [Talking to them is like trying to make friends with a broken glass at times.]
Tech types, though? No one comes to mind. I think we lost a lot of them in the turnover.
Damian argues with everyone in very public ways i wouldn't take it personal
don't think I met that connor doesn't sound like any of the androids from home either, so i'm guessing that was a bud damian and jay made here if either turn back up, i'll ask about it anyway, don't sweat it i'm sure you both had your good reasons.
oh yeah, i know believe me, sister, I Know thats part of why i'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here they're also some of the smartest people i've ever known, so bear with me, okay? i'm trying
well crap i'll keep an eye out for any tech types in the new batches hopefully we'll get lucky otherwise, what's your thoughts on where this unit should start? what's the biggest threat to displaced security right now?
[Because she doesn't dislike Damian and Jason as much as they dislike her. For the most part, she finds them annoying and arrogant, believing people need to live up to their standards.
And she'll take up her issues with Jason with Jason.]
As for the troubles we face—part of it is something that the group is paranoid about. While I don't think we're at risk of any immediate, major attacks, there are a few things that are undeniable:
• There are powerful people in this world who know who we are, and they can hire mercenaries to do whatever they want. • Some of those powerful people are undoubtedly tied to the government. • We're linked to Morningstar. Even if it's surging right now in popularity, governments don't tend to want to lose power to such a degree. • Not to many anyone locally who might have a problem with us.
Having a scouting group will help us identify people who are watching us. It might even help us learn which points of surveillance can be avoided if trouble comes. Ideally, we'd be able to get eyes through that surveillance ourselves, but that's easier said than done.
I realize a lot of that comes down to paranoia, but we've made a lot of moves lately. The powerful people here like to control the narrative. It's only a matter of time, and having a group like this in place can help protect the rest of us.
