Connor. I don't believe he'll take kindly to my interpretation of that story because I brought it to light during an argument with his brother. But I was trying to make a point about how trying to enforce certain restrictions and guidelines would end up leading to us ousting those among us who simply leap to harsher choices, even if they don't go through with them. [And because she was certain Connor would want Wanheda out of the Displaced's business once he learned.]

Deserving for me is hurting my people. Isn't that how it goes? We'll always put the people we care about most first, even here. I have no reason to believe that you'd do that right now. And when I say hurt, I don't mean minor slights or petty arguments. I mean hurting them. [It could be alarming to say that, but she's not going to lie. Clarke is almost too earnest in how she delivers things. It could make her look worse, but hey.

The one insincere part is where she firmly believes that Jason is the type of person to take a minor slight or pretty argument personally on behalf of his loved ones. But she's not going to say where she's coming from there.]

As for the unit—so far it's you, and I intend to ask all of the bouncers at Red Wings. They took up security because it's the closest to their previous lifestyles. I'd like to give them a job that's closer to what they're trained for. Most of the staff can handle themselves, so they can direct their energies toward a common community goal.

Damian and I used to argue a lot in very public ways about how to handle the Displaced while coming from different but similar situations. We learned different lessons out of them. Which I realize sounds like some nonsense PR line, but we managed to come to an understanding after almost a year. I think the two of us went home.

Connor's last name was Resnik, I think. But he was an android, so I think any name he had was chosen to go by here. Damian might've referred to him by his last name from time to time.

For whatever it's worth, I always ask someone's side. I've been holding back on being harsh about your friend and his brother, but you know they aren't the most forthcoming people, right?
[Talking to them is like trying to make friends with a broken glass at times.]

Tech types, though? No one comes to mind. I think we lost a lot of them in the turnover.

Understood, then.

[Because she doesn't dislike Damian and Jason as much as they dislike her. For the most part, she finds them annoying and arrogant, believing people need to live up to their standards.

And she'll take up her issues with Jason with Jason.]

As for the troubles we face—part of it is something that the group is paranoid about. While I don't think we're at risk of any immediate, major attacks, there are a few things that are undeniable:

• There are powerful people in this world who know who we are, and they can hire mercenaries to do whatever they want.
• Some of those powerful people are undoubtedly tied to the government.
• We're linked to Morningstar. Even if it's surging right now in popularity, governments don't tend to want to lose power to such a degree.
• Not to many anyone locally who might have a problem with us.

Having a scouting group will help us identify people who are watching us. It might even help us learn which points of surveillance can be avoided if trouble comes. Ideally, we'd be able to get eyes through that surveillance ourselves, but that's easier said than done.

I realize a lot of that comes down to paranoia, but we've made a lot of moves lately. The powerful people here like to control the narrative. It's only a matter of time, and having a group like this in place can help protect the rest of us.
