ooo longbow's pretty old school, nice so you're probably used to wooden arrows, right? i'll tell you now, you're not going to find wood to spare in this place i usually shoot carbon or composite, but aluminum's lighter and might be more the speed for your bow if you come by my workshop you can shoot a few, see which you like better
for the trick arrows, right now i've goooot incendiary net sleep gas hook shot propeller (would not use if not used to trick arrows, might fall to your death :( ) flash grenade smoke grenade grenade grenade armor piercing foaming (which is also kind of like the glue arrow, but funnier?) aaand electric shock
should have more later but i've only had so much time here so far
I've been told that I am "like something out of Medieval Times," so, yes: I imagine just about everything I do will seem old. I'd love to stop by. Thank you, again, for all of the help.
Maker. That's a lot of arrows. I did have some experience with explosive arrows previously, but none of the others. I can hardly ask you for more when you've already done me an enormous favor, so I may...hold off for now, and perhaps revisit the exciting range of arrow options in the future?
ok new compensation price: let me take a close peek at that bow of yours, because if you're that old school, that gem has to be some kinda relic no problem at all, arrow stuff is what i do
all gravy, standard fare it is besides, you really want some training with these if you're going the trick arrow route ive had enough explode in my face when ive been screwing around to tell you its not a good time and it takes forever for singed eyebrows to grow back in let me know if/when you wanna try those out and i'll show you how they work
otherwise, here's the address, and i'll see you when you stop by
[ pretend there is a handwaved address here, and if you want to shift this to action and have her come by, roy's workshop will be some garage type thing nearby Jason Todd's place, with the garage door drawn up and left wide open while roy scoots around on a rolly/swivel chair inside, sliding from one work station to another while he tools away at projects. ]
More than a fair price. I hope it can live up to your expectations.
I have in fact lost my eyebrows to experimental weaponry before, unfortunately. Not eager to do so again, though it may be a better match for the shaved head.
I'll see you soon.
[ She manages to find it without too much trouble, approaching and glancing inside with a curious expression. ]
Roy? [ Comes the light, British call from the doorway where Cecily stands, bow in tow. ] Very interesting sort of workshop you've got here, isn't it?
[ roy calls out as he slides his chair back and stand, raising a hand to greet her with a bright grin. ]
You should've seen my last one. Has anyone told you what aliens are yet? [ because his last workshop was in a massive alien spaceship and it spoiled him. no lab he gets after that one will be as well equipped or high tech, but hey, it's not like he didn't start out doing stuff like this in his dad's basement. ] Anyway, this one's a little tight, but it's cozy. Gets all the jobs done. Come on in.
[ roy tilts his head to call her back further into the workshop, towards a back wall that has a couple different bows and a variety of arrows hung up there. glancing back, his eyes catch on her bow, and roy's immediately distracted again, as is wont to happen with him. ]
Oooh, it's so pretty. Can I hold the baby?
[ 'the baby' meaning your super nice longbow right there, friend. he'll be gentle. ]
That's the one. [ She raises her brows at the question - a clear indication that her answer will be in the negative - and goes on to make it clear: ] Er, no... But I get the sense that you may be about to.
[ For the sake of the discussion surrounding his workshop, perhaps. He'll find her gazing around with interest, quietly comparing it with Dagna's space at Skyhold, though the technologies used are...obviously very different. ]
I suppose that's what matters in the end, isn't it? [ She heads further in when he indicates, smiling fondly at the bows and arrows on display. ] This is an impressive collection, truly.
[ He clearly knows what he's doing, and Hawke had been the one to recommend him, and so it's an easy choice to hand over the bow, nodding in acknowledgment as she passes it over. ]
I'm flattered that you approve. I didn't craft the thing, but it's certainly nicer to look at than the standard fare we were able to get our hands on at the beginning.
Nah, if no one's dropped the aliens bomb on you yet, I won't make you go through that.
[ let someone else break her brain, he's just handling archery updates today.
roy takes the bow in his hands carefully, turning it over to examine the details closely, feel the grip on the weapon, the tension on the string, the finish over the wood. ]
Pretty doesn't always mean functional, but I think you lucked out on this one. [ pretty and deadly, there's no losing here. her bow still in his hands, roy turns back towards the wall of weapons, starting his spiel while he's still feeling up her relic here. ]
So, 21st century archery. In addition to ye olde wooden long bow, we have Recurves now, like this- [ picking up his own bow (solid red, but firmly made, some of the joints foldable for easy packing and concealing), roy holds it out for cecily to look at. ] -And we have Compounds. [ pointing up at a more complicated looking bow on the wall, with metal bits and pulleys and scopes and wheels and all kinds of nonsense on it. ] The nice thing in both is they effectively give you a longer draw, so you get more force, speed, distance, yada yada, right? Problem with Compounds, though, is they take some set up, and some tools. Great for competitions, shitty for battlefield.
I can slap together a traditional long bow for you, but I'd say take a swing with a Recurve. You'll like the extra reach, I promise.
[ She's had her brain broken so many times already by the bizarre "future" concepts of other interlopers that, she thinks, one more thing could hardly do permanent harm. ]
We have some talented smiths, arcanists, and enchanters in Skyhold. [ She says, the pride clearly present in her voice. ] They could take anything and craft an incredible weapon from it.
[ Cecily thinks so, anyway, and their people have proven themselves time and time again.
When he mentions the Recurves, she accepts it into her hands and turns it gingerly. ] This looks more manageable than... [ The Compound. She quirks a brow at it as if in judgment, shrugging a little before returning the other back to his hands. ] We do a bit more battlefield than competition, so that one...seems a little less functional for our needs.
[ "Our." The Inquisition. As she hasn't explained this, it may come across a bit as if she's just referring to herself in multitudes. ]
I couldn't ask that of you; I know materials are sparse, here. [ However much she does itch to try out a bow made by this man, who clearly knows what he's talking about... ]
